The 50th anniversary celebrations of the Church of St Michael the Archangel in Belfast begin on Saturday September 26, with a Jubilee Mass attended by Bishop Alan McGuckian.
To celebrate the Golden Jubilee, the parish has published a commemorative book which tells the story of the church and parish, beginning from the construction of the church in 1971. Copies of the book are being distributed to every household in the parish in the days leading up to the jubilee celebrations.
In a statement about the book and the 50th anniversary, parish priest Fr Ciarán Feeney noted that the church “literally bears the scars of the Troubles, with bullet holes in the walls. It has been a place where wounds are healed by Jesus Christ, a place of refreshment and consolation.”
“St Michael’s has faced many challenges over the decades – the Troubles, the rise in secularism, the decline in vocations, the Covid pandemic, to name a few. But thankfully the Lord has also provided new opportunities to spread the Good News through meaningful social media, fun-filled pilgrimage and new ministries such as baptism, lay funeral and bereavement support,” continued Fr Feeney.
