Mercy International Association (MIA) has appointed a new Chair of the MIA Board during a joint meeting between the MIA board and members, which recently took place in the Grand Hotel, Malahide. The new Chair is Sr Maria Lawton rsm, Congregation Bursar of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta Congregation, Australia.

Speaking on her appointment, Sr Maria said she feels “both humbled and privileged to have been appointed,” mentioning the “exciting time” of Mercy International Association (MIA) approaching the 200th Anniversary of the opening of the first House of Mercy in Baggot Street.

The Mercy Centre in Baggot Street has been closed since last October, but should reopen again in late June, in time for the 200th anniversary celebration in September 2027.

“I look forward to a strong, vibrant and exciting future for MIA, as together we respond to the invitations before us in the unfolding story of Mercy,” Sr Maria said.
