Celebrating youth in Cork and Ross

Coinciding with the diocese’s Youth Ministry Special Collection, Cork and Ross celebrated their first Young Adult Mass on November 9, an event which will now take place on the second Sunday of each month.

The Mass took place at Sts Peter and Paul’s Church, and according to Sheila Kelleher, the diocese’s coordinator for youth ministry, it “came as a proposal from the young people who travelled to Rome for the Jubilee of Youth”. Kelleher said that after the pilgrimage, they wanted time to pray, gather and reflect on their shared experience.

Youth ministry in Cork and Ross has taken off in the last year, with new initiatives such as altar server workshops, Alpha Youth, and Maranatha providing spaces for youth to connect, coordinate, and even play music.

These initiatives have clearly strengthened the involvement of the diocese’s youth, as the Mass on Sunday was coordinated completely by young people, including the singing, serving, and hospitality after. Bishop Fintan Gavin of Cork and Ross was the principal celebrant.
