Weekly Lenten event for Dublin youth offers opportunity for faith formation

The Archdiocese of Dublin is hosting a weekly event for young people to gather and reflect during the Lenten season. ‘5 Thursdays in Lent’ will take place each Thursday from February 26 to March 26, and will focus on the Sunday Gospels of Lent as well as the new Synod resource ‘Baptised and Sent in Lent’.

The idea for the initiative is a result of reflections from YouthCon 2025, said organiser Natalie Doherty, the Diocesan Faith Development Coordinator for Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Ms Doherty shared that a key message they received from young people in the archdiocese during YouthCon was the “need for faith formation and for exploring scripture.”

Ms Doherty explained to The Irish Catholic that the organisers hoped to appeal to “as many people as possible” by offering a variety of guest speakers from different backgrounds including Fr Niall Leahy SJ, Chaplain of Willow Park School Victoria Byrne, and Trócaire Church Manager Jane Mellett.

As the archdiocese is so large, the weekly meeting will take place over Zoom, hopefully making it more accessible, said
Ms Doherty.
