The national Pro Life Campaign (PLC) hosted their annual fundraising dinner for 600 people on September 20 in Dublin. The dinner, titled Ceiliúradh Cois Life, took place in the Clayton Hotel and featured a reception which included drinks and dancing, a live band and a raffle.
Éamon Ó Cuív, former Cabinet Minister and TD for Galway West, joined the dinner as a guest speaker. In his speech, he encouraged those in attendance to keep up the fight against abortion. To emphasise the necessity of the campaign and the urgency of the abortion issue, he cited the statistic that over 10,000 abortions were carried out in Ireland last year, “despite promises that abortion would be ‘rare’”.
Mr Ó Cuív also called upon attendees to place their focus on end-of-life issues in addition to abortion, specifically the introduction of euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Eilís Mulroy, who serves as campaign manager of PLC, shared a similar sentiment: “Hardly a day goes by without another story coming to light about the tragedy of what’s taking place under Ireland’s abortion law. The PLC keeps track of these developments and is working hard to unearth the full truth of what is happening,” she said.
Ms Mulroy continued on to share how she believes the PLC has made an impact on mainstream media’s coverage of the abortion issue. “Some national outlets have begun reporting on the realities we’ve exposed recently. Even they seem alarmed at how extreme Ireland’s abortion regime has become.”
“I’m pleased to report that our work is making an impact,” Ms Mulroy said.
The dinner hosted 600 attendees from across the country, and all funds raised at the dinner will go towards pregnant women and young mothers in need, as well as PLC’s education and youth initiatives.
