The Irish Dominican Friars invited men aged 18 and above to join them for the Jubilee Camino Men’s Walk on September 13. Two priests, two brothers, and 40 men took part, walking 20 kilometres from a Dominican Abbey ruin in Carlingford to St Catherine’s Dominican Church in Newry.
One pilgrim who took part described it as “spiritually and physically and socially nourishing,” and another said he felt “rejuvenated, empowered, inspired, and peaceful.”
Men traveled from around Ireland to attend the pilgrimage, including Kerry and Galway.
Along the way the chapter of men stopped to pray the Rosary at St Jude’s Shrine and they picked up the Jubilee indulgence in Newry Cathedral. There were confessions and a 30 minute Lecto Divina as the men walked. The pilgrims enjoyed the spiritual accompaniment from the priests and brothers, including discussion and guidance as well as the ‘walking confessions’.
